A new firmware update is now available to download for DJI Mavic 2 Pro and Mavic 2 Zoom drone users. The software package adds support for the Federal Aviation Administration’s Remote ID requirements in the United States.

A 36-year-old drone pilot has been fined nearly £1,500 ($1,900) by a UK court. The man was found to have been flying his DJI Mavic 2 drone recklessly near an airport while trying to film a rock music festival.

Researchers at Virginia Tech’s impact lab flew a DJI Mavic 2 Pro into the windshield of a car at 62.5 mph to see what damage would be caused. The test was in partnership with Virginia Tech Mid-Atlantic Aviation Partnership, the College of Engineering, and State Farm to evaluate drone collision risks with a moving car.

Recently, we told you the story of the Mavic 2 Pro that somehow managed to limp back to the pilot after being partially melted, sizzled, and scorched while flying close to the mouth of the erupting volcano in Iceland. Chris Cameron from DIY Photography has modified his DJI Mavic controller allowing him to fly his Mavic 2 drone with a joystick. To get the joystick working, Cameron was forced to teardown his controller and create custom hardware.

Fears of Chinese state spying have caused the US government to restrict business with leading drone maker DJI. The federal government has even grounded an entire fleet of DJI and other Chinese-made drones that it had purchased. However, in Europe, governments are turning to DJI in the fight against COVID-19.
